The Three Gorges Dam

The three gorges dam, the worlds largest hydroelectric dam, made for flood control and power generation . Located in the Yangtze River, Sandouping, Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China (coordinates: 30.8231 degrees N , 111.0033 degrees E).  Its obviously a man-made structure. It was planed in the 1940’s and started construction in the year 1994 until 2009, wow must of been a hard task if t took 15 years to construct! The total cost of the dam is estimated to 200-240 billion yaun, which is about 25 billion U.S dollars. The Yangtze River is the world’s 3rd longest river at approximately 6,000 km. Enough boring information, you want to know how China’s Three Gorges Dam effects you? Consider this: it will literally slow down the rotation of the Earth, (by shifting huge masses of water). The dam has caused some problems though, because of the dam 1.3 million people were relocated. The Three Gorges Dam generates 11 times as much power as the Hoover Dam. The dam was made to control flooding issues, but that didn’t stop the flood of 2010. China has a huge water crisis, half of the population only has 15% fresh water. Hope you enjoyed my blog entry, thanks for reading!!...
